Chocolate Marble Cake

A thin slice of rich marble cake is perfect with a nice cup of tea. Want a slice? 😉

Chocolate Marble Cake (1)

1 cup butter
• 2 cups sugar
• 4 eggs
• ½ Tsp vanilla
• 3½ cups flour
• 2 tsp baking powder
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1 cup milk
• ½ cup roughly chopped chocolate or chocolate chips
• 1/4 cup cocoa powder
• 2 tsp grated orange zest (optional)

Grease a deep a 9 inch pan and dust with flour and pre-heat oven to 350°F….in the meantime, in large bowl, mix together butter and sugar until very light and fluffy, then beat in the eggs, one at a time, and vanilla.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt to the mixture, then add flour mixture and milk. Transfer almost half the batter to separate bowl and stir in chocolate and cocoa and stir orange rind into remaining batter.

Transfer about half the orange-flavoured batter to pan. In random fashion, spoon in chocolate batter and top with more orange batter. With knife, zigzag through batter once to create marble effect. just have fun it doesn’t have to look perfect.

Bake in the oven for about 1-1/4 hours or until cake has shrunk away from sides of pan and a knife inserted in centre of cake comes out clean.
