Spicy Hummus-Tastic

This is not a difficult recipe. Really it’s all about personal taste – the way I look at it is that normal hummus needs to be spiced up to really get the flavours happening

Spicy Hummus-Tastic (6)

  • 1 x 400g can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seed, pounded
  • 2 small fresh red chillies, or crumbled dry chilli
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and pounded to a paste
  • 1 lemon, juice
  • salt & fresh ground pepper
  • olive oil

Simply chuck everything in the blender and blitz, once it starts to look creamy then your in the right path. Add a good pinch of cumin for a bit of spice, a little dried chilli for a touch of heat and a good squeezing of lemon juice to give it a twang and seasoning to taste, Then add the olive oil to loosen and flavour.

The best thing about this is that you can adjust the flavour on the way – depends on your taste add lemon, oil, chilli, salt. Personally I always get carried away with the lemon as it makes it twang and I might sometimes add extra olive oil, which I just love to use in almost everything.

Put in a bowl, smooth the top with the back of a spoon, drizzle with olive oil on top and a bit of chilli and your guests will be impressed 🙂 normally I usually just chuck it on top of toasted pita breads.
